We attended the Action for Happiness Conference on Monday 21 September (World Peace Day) in London. The fantastic news is that his Holiness The Dalai Lama did indeed make his appearance. And wow what a skilful communicator (in addition to everything else). The conference also featured Anthony Sheldon and Matthieu Ricard (often described as the happiest man in the world – based on his brain scans!)
Action for Happiness is a movement of people who seek a fundamentally different way of life – where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others.
The conference (which took place in the Lyceum Theatre in London included contributions from:
- Daniel Goleman – who will share the key messages from A Force For Good, his wonderful new book about the Dalai Lama’s vision for our world
- Suzy Greaves – who will talk about shifting our culture towards happiness and why hundreds of people are forming their own ‘happiness clubs’
- Richie Davidson – who will share the very latest research about the neuroscience of happiness and compassion
- Matthieu Ricard – who will explore why compassion is vital and how we can create a kinder and more caring world
Action for Happiness
Action for Happiness (AfH) brings together like-minded people from all walks of life and help them take practical action. The organisation draws on the latest scientific research and is backed by leading experts from diverse fields including psychology, education, economics and social innovation.
Members of the movement make a simple pledge: to try to create more happiness in the world around them. AfH provide ideas and resources to enable people to take action at home, at work or in their community.
AfH has no religious, political or commercial affiliations and welcome people of all faiths (or none) and all parts of society. It was founded in 2010 by Richard Layard, Geoff Mulgan and Anthony Seldon. The Dalai Lama serves as a patron.
